Advice for grandparents

Madam, - Grandparents have been in the headlines recently over a very complex case concerning custody of their grandchild

Madam, - Grandparents have been in the headlines recently over a very complex case concerning custody of their grandchild. Many of the calls to our National Information Centre for Unmarried Parents are from grandparents on a variety of issues concerning their grandchildren.

Treoir, with the assistance of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency, has recently published "Being there for them", a booklet for grandparents of children whose parents are not married to each other. It highlights the many and varied roles that grandparents play in the lives of their adult children and grandchildren.

It addresses issues such as grandparents coping with their adult children's unexpected pregnancies, and supporting parents with the care of their children, ranging from informal babysitting to the full care of their grandchildren.

This booklet is available free from Treoir on 01-6700120. - Yours, etc.,
