Sir, - I would like to say I was amused when Michael B. Gill (September 19th) called Aer Lingus "a fine airline which most Irish people are proud of", but my experience of Aer Lingus in the aftermath of the New York disaster was appalling.
Constant attempts over five days to contact the airline via its information lines in the US were unsuccessful, and when Aer Lingus did issue a new emergency line this turned out to be a Manhattan resident's number. Most people I have spoken to had to resort to calling the Irish consulate in order to contact our national airline to obtain information about getting home.
I for one will never travel with our "national airline" again. - Yours, etc.,
Paula Fitzell, Thomas Street, Limerick.
