Sir, – Róisín Shortall was totally unrealistic in her disagreement with the Minister for Health over spending cuts; and she completely misjudged the role of a minister for state. The mark of a true professional is to keep your disagreements in-house and give it to your political opponents with both barrels. Instead, Ms Shortall indulged in immature petulance. Just as well she wasn’t appointed to Cabinet in 2011. – Yours, etc,
Sir, – The principled stand taken by Róisín Shortall leads me to hope that we are seeing the beginning of a return of the Labour Party to Labour people. For too long it has been dominated by the glib soundbites of Messrs Gilmore and Rabbitte.
