Madam, - Fr Michael Kelly contradicts himself in his article on the Aids epidemic (Rite and Reason, March 13th). He writes that 60 per cent of people over 15 years infected by Aids in sub-Saharan Africa are women, but then goes on to assert that "it is as if [ Aids] had singled them out for a massive and ferocious onslaught". To say that 60 per cent are "singled out" in any given situation is a gross exaggeration.

Aids affects both sexes and will be curtailed only when the Catholic church decides to accept that promiscuity is a fact and promotes the use of condoms to save lives. - Yours, etc,
