Madam, - Commenting on the bogus letters sent out by Mr Lorcan Allen, the Tánaiste has said the forging of the Taoiseach's signature could be a matter for the Garda (The Irish Times, June 30th). Forgery is just one of a number of possible illegalities.
Senator Jim Walsh admitted giving some envelopes to Mr Lorcan Allen but subsequently sought their return. Is his behaviour consistent with public office- holders' ethics and will it be investigated by Fianna Fáil?
This raises the question: what other member/s of the Oireachtas facilitated Mr Allen's prepaid envelope requirements and did they know why he needed them?
Also, notwithstanding any inquiry being conducted by Fianna Fáil, does not the unauthorised acquisition, possession and use of prepaid Oireachtas envelopes demand Garda attention? - Yours, etc.,
