Sir, - For the second time in less than two months your correspondent, P. J. Gormely (April 4th) writes in terms that suggests he thinks those of us living on this island outside of counties Armagh, Antrim, Down, Derry, Fermanagh and Tyrone are some lower form of life, although he may well not really believe this.

His most recent letter deserves - more serious consideration than the last one. I may well have a plank in my eye and he only a mote, but I would have thought our Government's efforts to find a solution to the problem within Northern Ireland (or is there none?) are based purely on nonviolent means, and in this are supported by possibly more than 95 per cent of the population of the Republic. - Yours, etc.,
