Madam, - Senator Geraldine Feeney (January 23rd) writes that Irish media "sometimes even report on American football, which is not even played in Ireland". The senator is mistaken.
In Ireland, there is an American Football league (called, oddly enough, Irish American Football League). There are teams from Dublin (including DCU), Cork, Carrickfergus and Limerick University. As well as this, Craigavon, Cork and Galway have development teams. The Dublin Rebels are the reigning Shamrock Bowl champions.
Results from the league feature in The Irish Times sport pages during the summer. - Yours, etc,
PHILIP NULTY, Shanlis, Ardee, Co Louth.
