Sir, - A report (May 13th) quotes the Tanaiste, Ms Mary Harney, as saying: "Where the older generation sees threats, the younger generation sees opportunities, and so it is with the Amsterdam Treaty". Ms Harney should not generalise. People's opinions vary, whatever their age group.
There are quite a number of young people who are deeply concerned about the prospect of starting on a road which could lead to a common defence policy in Europe. After all, it is the younger generation who would be involved in any conflict in Europe or elsewhere. - Yours, etc., Anna R. Quinn,
