Sir, – Further to "Minister talks to herself in Dáil as other TDs fail to show up" (December 15th), would it not be appropriate for the Dáil to operate a quorum system?
Are we passing laws in this country with one elected representative proposing, seconding and voting?
If the whips had to organise a two-thirds quorum, it might be more productive and more representative of the people’s views than, say, organising “pairing arrangements”.
It is very difficult to expect the people to have confidence in legislators who do not turn up to vote on proposed legislation. – Yours, etc,
