An end to the death penalty

Sir, – May I add my voice that that of Ian O’Donnell (April 18th) in hoping that “we do not have to wait another 60 years until the final prisoner in the US is led into the death chamber” – in fact that this barbaric practice will cease worldwide?

How sad it is that in this so-called compassionate age it can be considered acceptable to deliberately kill another human being.

Instead we should all be thankful for the gift of our own lives and do all that we can to ensure that killing is never seen as the answer to any problem. Yours, etc,
