Sir, - My wife and I were involved in a serious car accident on the morning of May 15th on the N71 between Schull and Bantry as we were driving to Cork Airport at the end of our vacation.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all the citizens who stopped to help, and to the emergency personnel who quickly arrived at the scene of the wreck and offered us comfort and solace.
We were taken to Bantry General Hospital, where the entire staff showed incredible kindness and compassion toward two strangers from across the ocean. At a time of confusion, panic and fright, their caring attitude calmed us and started us on the road to recovery.
We will never forget them, and we would like publicly to commend every member of the hospital staff, from the porters to the doctors. We felt in safe and capable hands from the moment of our arrival in the emergency room, and we truly consider them to be angels of mercy. We are very grateful. - Yours, etc.,
