Sir, - The carnage on our roads is quite rightly receiving a lot of publicity, with 12 people dying over the bank holiday weekend. However, we have an insidious killer in our midst. During the same weekend approximately 180 people died from smoking, based on 6,500 Irish people dying per annum. This puts the carnage on the road into the half-penny place and needs serious addressing. - Yours, etc.,
