Sir, – The present economic crisis that the world is going through is very serious and a great amount of work is going into finding solutions to the problem.
Climate change is a much more serious problem, as the future of the planet is at stake, and yet no serious efforts have been made to address it. We may make the planet inhospitable to many life forms, bring about the collapse of human civilisation and the destruction of many other species – however, the bacteria and insects will thrive.
The agreement reached in Durban means that meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions will not start to take place until 2020 at the earliest. We are seriously in danger of running out of time to halt runaway climate change.
