Apartment sizes in the capital

Sir, – The council’s latest proposal seems to ignore a blindingly obvious solution to Dublin’s housing density problem – building up. The current plan limits residential buildings to 16 stories and offices to 12. For reference, Liberty Hall has 17 stories. A compromise would be to limit increased building height to key areas such as Grand Canal Dock, which is under huge pressure as the technology sector continues to grow and may soon outgrow the area altogether.

This could not only solve housing problems in those areas, largely populated by young professionals, but also preserve and take pressure off other areas of the city. – Yours, etc,
