Madam, - I read in your pages on May 16th an appreciation of a man recently deceased. He is described as being "a larger than life sportsman who never did things by halves".
Mr X was "an enthusiastic fisherman but he really excelled with the gun, shooting game and duck throughout East Anglia as a young man and making the occasional foray north for grouse. In Ireland, after losing his right eye and learning to shoot again with a cross-over stock, he became a deadly snipe shot and quite superb at woodcock, meticulously recording the details of each outing in a large leather game book."
He was indeed larger than life. May we now have "An Appreciation" for all the wildlife slaughtered? - Yours, etc,
