Sir, - There is no virtue in obeying a law when the possibility of disobeying it has been removed. So Dr Connell's call to Church of Ireland clergy to "respect the faith and obligations" of Roman Catholics by not inviting them to participate in Anglican Communion services is entirely pointless.
If it is against the tenets of the Roman Catholic church to receive communion in another Christian church then Roman Catholics will have to be convinced to voluntarily abstain from this practice. It is unreasonable to expect Protestants go against their own beliefs (of welcome and inclusion) in order to enforce Roman Catholic law. You can't legislate people into heaven. - Yours, etc.,
