Sir, – Well done to the OPW and the General Register Office in deciding to move the research room from its current location in the Irish Life Centre to the old dole office in Werburgh Street (Home News, July 20th).

The Irish Life Centre is a modern bright office, the new location is down a dingy lane in an office that is hardly welcoming and which was closed as it was too outdated even for a dole office.

The OPW and GRO must be particularly proud to have achieved this move in the year of The Gathering.

Overseas visitors researching their family origins will, no doubt, be delighted to research in a building reminiscent of what drove their ancestors abroad. – Yours, etc,
