Sir, - In the late 1950s I served intermittently in the FCA for four years, during which I blasted away with the various weapons available at that time. I now find that I have an intermittent hearing disorder.

I can hear phrases like "are you going for a pint?" even when uttered in low tones at some distance. But when my wife says things like, "Do you really need another drink, Dear?", or "It's your turn to empty the dishwasher", I suffer from a selective filtering effect, even when she speaks quite loudly.
