Madam, – I read that talks between management and unions at Dublin Bus on urgent cost-cutting and efficiency measures are near to reaching agreement.

Is it too much to hope that the anticipated changes will include the elimination of the seemingly ubiquitous “AS SEIRBHÍS” buses that are such a source of annoyance, as well as a daily advertisement of wasteful management?

During a recent nine-day visit to San Francisco, I noticed two public transport vehicles signalling “Sorry, no passengers” – one of which seemed to have a mechanical fault. During my first week back at home, I counted 42 Dublin Bus vehicles in “AS SEIRBHÍS” mode, while I waited for buses to take me to my destinations. – Yours, etc,
