Sir, - May I say how much I enjoy the Asia Letter from Miriam Donohue? Not alone does she analyse with remarkable clarity the political and economic situation in China, she also puts a human face on life there, with great good humour and affection.
Her amusing piece of May 14th, "Getting your teeth into crunchy deep-fried slug", while recognising the eccentricities of Chinese cuisine for us Westerners, was infused with a sympathetic understanding of the Asian attitude to exotic delicacies that would be anathema to us.
And I loved the typical Irish dinner that Ms Donohue looked forward to enjoying at home in Ireland in July. -Yours, etc.,
