Sir, - It was comforting to read that the Society of African Missions are taking up the cause of refugees, particularly those from Africa (The Irish Times, May 9th).
For decades, Catholic missionaries imposed European values and culture on the continent of Africa and willingly aided the white colonial powers in their conquest. They educated the village headman to such an extent that when asked about religion, he could say: "When they came we had the land and they had the Bible, now we have the Bible and they have the land." - Yours, etc.,
