Sir, - "Every day . . . every way . . . better. . . better."
Before November 1950 I was consulted, personally and by name, as was every other professor in every major seminary in the entire Catholic world, by Pope Pius XII, on the projected definition of the Assumption of Our Blessed Lady into Heaven. I think if he were canvassing views now he would address himself too to the hall porter and the cleaners, if the matter were of comparable pastoral significance.
Some weeks ago, a news item in the media, so imprecise in its nomenclature as to provide only a vague idea of context, gave us to understand that the obligation of attending Holy Mass attached to some solemnities at present (technically called feriatio) was to be transferred to a near Sunday. It was not clear (to me) whether this was to be effected, or whether permission for it was to be petitioned.
Perhaps some others, more frequently in the Forum than I am, may know more; but I wonder whether Emile Coue - if he is in a position to do so, which I greatly doubt - is turning in his grave! - Yours, etc.,
