Madam, - Reading Michael Casey's article on entrepreneurship left me wondering which country I have been working in for the past 10 years (Opinion & Analysis, May 23rd). The portrayal of business life here and of the role of Irish businessmen abroad is unrecognisable.
Far from looking down their nose at people in business, professional people seem mesmerised by them and inspired by the prospect of owning office blocks and private hospitals. Across society people have taken on borrowings in order to invest, not just in residential property, but in commercial opportunities of all kinds.
In every area of commercial life, from mining to pharmaceuticals, from Kenmare to Kazbekistan, one sure thing today is that you will find an Irishman taking risks, hoping to make a profit and generally getting on with it. - Yours, etc,
