Madam, - In his recent article "Why North-South co-operation makes perfect sense" (Opinion, February 17th) the director of the Centre for Cross Border Studies, Andy Pollak, notes among Northern Ireland's superior accomplishments the exceptionally high standards maintained by its education and library boards. As a frequent user of Belfast Central Library, I am very pleased he highlighted this.
Each time I visit Belfast, I spend many pleasurable hours browsing through its collections, viewing its current art and book exhibitions, reading under its magnificent first-floor dome, and being assisted by its gracious, highly professional staff.
Its present display, a handsome collection of books based on the "Bloomsbury Group", is drawn from the library's own holdings. And most generously, free copies of an 11- page bibliography of the exhibits are also available.
I have meant for some time to express my gratitude in writing to the staff of Belfast Central library for the superior service they give me and now - thanks to Mr Pollak - this seems an apt time to do so. - Yours, etc.,
IMELDA O'CONNOR, Carrigaline, Co Cork.
