Autism and education

Sir, – If it is true that society will be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members then we should be truly shamed by Carl O'Brien's report on the exclusion of hundreds of children with autism from primary education ("Hundreds of 'invisible' children excluded from education", News, April 8th).

Back in 2001, in the Sinnott case, the High Court ruled on the fundamental constitutional right, not limited by the availability of resources, of every person to primary education.

Eighteen years on, will parents have to go to the courts again to make this right a reality for every child? – Yours, etc,
