Sir, – As Ireland ships out water, the media tell us “we got what we voted for”. However, few voted to sponsor trips abroad for ministers and councillors on St Patrick’s Day.
Free trips abroad should be abolished and the cost of air miles charged to those who want a vacation. Given these junkets still exist, promises notwithstanding, it is bewildering that Enda Kenny, et al, are perplexed and confused as to why people are refusing to pay the property tax. Contrary to popular media belief, we did not get what we voted for; we seem rather to have been misled. It would seem the common political thread is to look reality in the eye prior to elections, and sternly deny it thereafter. – Yours, etc,
