Madam, - In Frank McDonald's report on the odour from the sewage treatment plant in Ringsend (The Irish Times, April 13th), council engineers understate the problem. Since early March the smell in Sandymount has been overpowering and almost continuous, and I have regularly informed the council about the extent of it.
Any residual patience of residents, who have had to endure three years of sub-standard operation of the plant, has well and truly evaporated along with the odours.
The council officials are correct about one thing: the problems with the sewage treatment plant will strengthen the case against the proposed incinerator at Poolbeg. - Yours, etc.,
Cllr WENDY HEDERMAN (PD, Pembroke constituency), Ranelagh, Dublin 6.
