Madam, – There is constant talk of the vast amount the Government must raise, in the coming budget, with cuts to child allowances, old-age pensions and increased university registration fees.
Last week there was mention of the Metro North, which would serve areas already served by buses. Surely this is a luxury the taxpayer cannot afford just now?
Stephen Collins wrote an excellent article (“State cars symbolise gulf between rulers and ruled”, October 30th) suggesting ways the Government members could cut their own costs. “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” – Yours, etc,
