Sir, - Mr Zivko Jaksic of the Serbian Information Bureau states (April 26th) that "overwhelming expert military evidence" testifies that the shell which killed six people in a Sarajevo market in 1995 was fired by the Muslim forces.

Last autumn Martin Bell of the BBC launched a new book in Dublin. Referring to a Sunday Times report that anonymous British military sources accused the Bosnian government army of this cowardly attack, I asked Mr Bell for his view. He replied emphatically that he had investigated in detail the origin of this shell and that he had no doubt it was launched by Serb forces. He added. that the Sunday Times report came from the "department for lies." As a well known admirer of the UK army, Mr Bell's objectivity in this matter is persuasive.

Mr Jaksic does a huge disservice to the vast majority of decent and peace loving Serbs by continuing to repeat the mendacious propaganda of internationally - designated war criminals like Mr Karadzic and Mr Mladic. It is obvious that in war all combatants are capable of shameful actions. But Irish Times readers will be well able to judge for themselves which politicians bear overwhelming responsibility for the recent Balkan atrocities when RTE broadcasts the award winning documentary series The Death of Yugoslavia. - Yours, etc.,
