Sir, - I wish to comment on an article headed "Threat to ancient wood from short-lived road plan" (June 23rd), written by Nuala O'Faolain.

Ballyseedy Wood consists of 80 acres which is in public ownership and 15 acres which is privately owned. A 21/2-acre strip out of the 15 acres is the take for the proposed dual-carriageway, not eight acres as stated in Nuala O'Faolain's article. She says: "surely there is an alternative." Yes there is. The alternative, known as Plan B, can be seen in the offices of Kerry County Council. This plan involves moving northwards, thus avoiding the wood and in the process demolishing five family homes, one of which is mine. We have lived here for the past 32 years; one of our neighbours has been here for 50 years. Words cannot express how we felt when we heard that the so called "action group" had taken their objections to Brussels and in so doing had the cheek and arrogance to hand the fate of our homes over to the EU. We have lived with a nightmare which is not of our making. The eventual outcome, whatever it maybe, will not affect the objectors one way or another. They do not live here - some of them are not natives of this county or this country. I have cursed these people to hell more times than I can count and as the waiting drags on I find myself doing it with increasing regularity. I fail to understand the workings of a mind that would orchestrate a campaign that could endanger people's homes. The demolition of five homes to preserve those 21/2 acres is immoral and obscene. - Yours, etc., JUDY O'CONNOR, Ballyseedy, Tralee, Co Kerry.
