BAN ON SMOKING

EDWARD O'BARBER,

EDWARD O'BARBER,

Madam, - When I read the proposal to ban smoking in pubs and restaurants, I cheered that my wife and I could again make our twice-annual trips to  her land and enjoy the place fully without my asthma flaring.

Where we live our Main Street is a tourist area, and all six restaurants have been non-smoking for for a year, the four pubs have divided with smaller non-smoking areas, and all prosper exactly as before. In fact, at two of the pubs, where the main areas are non-smoking, their sales have gone up. So ignore the bleats of protest from the trade, tell'em to get on with it. They won't regret it. - Yours, etc.
