Madam, – So AIB is legally required to pay some bonuses. Why not pay them over the same period it’s going to take us taxpayers to pay off AIB’s losses? – Yours, etc,

Madam, – So the bonuses to senior AIB executives reflect the past, according to the bank’s chairman (Front page, December 12th). In an odd symmetry we the people can say that the same past has resulted in huge payments to his bank from the State. A very flexible past it was! – Yours, etc,

Madam, – Of course we are all in it together. My wife and I feel a warm patriotic glow knowing that the deduction of €16 a week from our disability and carer’s payments is going in part to help fund a €40 million bonus for distressed executives of a bankrupt bank. It’s nice to know that for some at least this Christmas the party goes on. – Yours, etc,
