Bank charges exemption

Sir, – The latest to put the boot in is National Irish Bank

Sir, – The latest to put the boot in is National Irish Bank. It will cost €77 per year to use the least of its services from June 1st for what was free before if one stayed out of debt.

When it forced us into e-banking by closing down our local branch, the myriad of literature it sent us at the time lauded the fact that it did this to keep costs down. Now it sends a letter listing charges for everybody, crying about how costly it was for it to set up e-banking. Has the bank no concept of morality at all?

Could it not at least have made an exemption for OAPs who live on €219 per week and never get into debt? For me, this means I will buy five fewer bags of coal next winter and wear my hat and coat in the house for more and more days. – Yours, etc,
