Madam, – Richie Boucher, CEO Bank of Ireland, needs to be reminded that the first duty of any company (even a bank) is to its shareholders. Or is this an out-of-date concept? The bank’s decision to sell its extensive art collection is commendable. There are thousands of “ordinary” people, holding ordinary shares, who are impoverished because of their loyalty to a bank which behaved irresponsibly. Surely the monies recouped by the sale should be given to these shareholders, perhaps with a positive bias towards old-age pensioners, of whom I am one?
