Sir, – "Banker earned over €16 million in 2019" (Business, August 18th). They may have been paid €16 million but I fail to comprehend how they earned it. – Yours, etc,
DIARMUID O’LEARY,
Kilfinane,
Co Limerick.
Sir, – Heartwarming to read that an Irish banker “earned” over €16 million while 33 others were paid more than €1 million in 2019. A sterling display of corporate ingratitude from a bailed-out business sector. – Yours, etc,
JOHN S HOLMES,
Leenane, Co Galway.
Sir, – The European Banking Authority (EBA) notes that 34 people working in banks in the State earned more than €1 million in 2019. The highest paid banker earned a mere €16.2 million. The EBA does not publish the names or the banks. Surely we have a right to know at least the name of the banks involved? – Yours, etc,
MIKE MORAN,
Dublin 3.
