Banks do not value our time

Sir, – My mission was to try and complete the ordering of a credit card. I am one of thousands of people moving over from Ulster Bank.

I was told via text message that there were four steps to be completed and to get started, which I did, at home on my phone. After two steps I could not go any further so I visited the local Bank of Ireland branch.

The lady there told me that I had to do the rest of it over the phone and promptly sat me down in a booth and rang a number for me – about a six-minute wait for that to be answered – then she handed me the phone telling me, “You are in a queue now.”’

After 50 minutes of waiting, and listening to piped music, being told “We are sorry for the delay”, etc, I left, with absolutely no result whatsoever.

I asked if I could do it from my phone at home.

“Oh yes, but it will take even longer”!

Frustration, exasperation and a little anger at an hour of wasted time. – Yours, etc,
