Sir, - It is very laudable that the Bar Council is to launch a scheme to provide the best legal representation free to individuals in deserving cases (The Irish Times, September 2nd).For far too long, a large section of the population of this island have not had recourse to legal avenues as a direct result of the prohibitive costs of court proceedings. Thus important principles of justice were denied.It is imperative that structures be put in place immediately enabling impoverished litigants with a serious grievance against a powerful or influential body to approach the council directly.Justice delayed is justice denied. - Yours, etc.,Deirdre Kenneally,Glanmire,Co Cork.
