BEEF TRIBUNAL FEES

Sir, - I refer to Fintan O'Toole's excellent article in today's Irish Times (August 1st). I too share his incredulity in the size of the payments to be made to Goodman International's former managing director and financial controller, and I take little cold comfort in the knowledge that the Revenue Authorities can:

(1) Issue an assessment for tax on the profit element of these expenses

(2) Recoup VAT on an individual's earnings where these exceed IR£20,000;

(3) Operate Withholding Tax on fees submitted by an accountant. - Yours, etc.,
