Sir, – In your Editorial (September 7th) regarding recent despicable riots by loyalists you stated: “Residents within the Shankill area, which produced many of the rioters, have legitimate grievances. High levels of unemployment persist.”
May I remind you of the NI Statistical Research Survey 2010 which shows that of the 20 most deprived district wards in Belfast only three of those were in what could be called Protestant areas. As in all previous surveys, Catholic areas of Belfast were found to suffer the most deprivation and unemployment. – Yours, etc,
