Madam, - A year that encourages social and personal development in any teenager is a good thing, and I believe it should be mandatory in all schools.
Leaving Certificate benefits aside, it is a chance for those students who do not excel academically to shine in other areas, make new friendships and realise that the world is not all about exams and study.
My own transition year, nearly 15 years ago, was a great step forward in my growing up, and I remember it vividly. And yes, I do believe it helped with my Leaving Cert results! - Yours, etc.,
