Sir, – Does the presence of a Bible in a polling station influence the way anybody votes? I doubt it. If keeps it some people happy, I say, as a happy atheist, leave it there.

Sir, – Swearing an oath and the use of a Bible (objectionable to many) is quite medieval and has no place in confirming identity. Also, in a court of law, a statement to tell the truth should be all that is required and no religious books should be offered as part of this declaration. Perhaps we might see bibles made available in our airports as proof of identity! – Yours, etc,
