Sir, – An advertisement in The Irish Times motors section (18th February) illustrates the serious inequity that exists in road tax charges.
Someone who can afford to spend €115,306 on a new Porsche Panamera will incur road tax of only €180 per annum.
Whereas, an individual who owns a 10-year-old small car, say a Honda Jazz, will pay €385 per annum or €432 if he/she can only afford quarterly payments.
Most new luxury car marques can boast the same cheap road tax. – Yours, etc, BRIAN MANLEY Rathmichael Park, Dublin 18
