Biodiversity in the city

Madam, - Congratulations on last Tuesday's special report on biodiversity

Madam, - Congratulations on last Tuesday's special report on biodiversity. It was a gentle reminder of the small beauties of nature at a time when we seem to be intent on turning our living spaces into concrete and cobblelock deserts and when gardens are disappearing faster than a developer can wave a cheque.

We need to stop more and more of our suburbs from becoming what one foreign visitor described as "glorified parking lots". - Yours, etc,

MICHAEL GALLIGAN, Brookville Drive, Dublin 5.
