Sir, – I am in a similar position to Darius Bartlett (August 19th) and thousands of people living in Ireland barred from donating blood due to having lived in the UK during the BSE crisis.
I contacted the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion service recently, who emailed me back within hours to say they’d be very happy to accept me as a blood donor.
So, if any of your readers are taking a trip in the vicinity of the Border, consider checking out the nearest blood donor session on www.nibts.org.
No doubt if there’s a major incident in, say, the Dundalk-Dublin area, and the hospitals run short of blood, they’ll be happy to give it back. – Yours, etc,
