Sir, - As we approach the 26th anniversary of Bloody Sunday demands for a new public inquiry remain unanswered. It is to be hoped that the British Government will facilitate the uncovering of the truth of what happened.

In recent weeks some unionist politicians have employed a blatant diversionary tactic by calling for an inquiry to be held into the Enniskillen bombing. Enniskillen differs from Bloody Sunday in two crucial ways.

Firstly, the killings on Bloody Sunday were carried out by forces of the state, which purport to uphold law and order. Enniskillen was perpetrated by and admitted to by the IRA. The British Government has never conceded that anything wrong was done on Bloody Sunday.

Secondly, the truth has never been revealed, mainly due to the cover-up that was the Widgery Tribunal.
