Sir, – Jeremy Corbyn didn’t have the votes to win. In the event, he was wise to make it a matter of conscience.
Obviously the Tories don’t go in for matters of conscience. They whipped their acquiescent MPs into line.
We can clearly see what the consciences of Hilary Benn, Alan Johnson and the rest of the Blairite MPs are worth. They invaded Iraq and now they have voted to bomb Syria.
It is the British people who must stop these wars by voting for MPs of principle. And by taking to the streets in lawful and non-violent protest in overwhelming numbers.
