Madam, - As an expatriate living on the Continent for almost 20 years, I know that one thing for which Irish football fans are noted is their fairness.
For example, at the start of an Ireland-Austria game in Vienna, a few years ago, the announcer particularly asked the Austrian fans not to boo because the Irish don't like it! It would be a shame if our good reputation were to be ruined by unfairness and booing, which I believe have never been "part and parcel of Irish football" (E.F. Fanning, May 9th). - Yours, etc.
