Madam, – Gerard O’Reilly March 29th) berates rugby match goers for booing the Scottish placekicker at the end of the recent test, calling it unsporting. He seems unaware of his own hypocrisy, as he goes on to damn our own front row players as sub standard, in the same letter. Booing at times of high drama is essentially an honest expression of fans’ involvement in the event, likewise cheering, applause, or roaring approval.

Attempts to sanitise fans’ response to sporting events in this manner are essentially unsporting, I would much rather that the fans keep it real. – Yours, etc,
