Madam, – I cannot agree with Maurice Hogan (April 1st) regarding the subject of booing at the rugby match. When I was a boy my father pointed out to me that one never barracked a player taking a penalty. This never happened in Ireland or England, indeed one could here a pin drop as a place kick was taken.

In Durban, South Africa it never happened until a few years ago when new arrivals from the UK started to boo place kickers.

The practice is deplored by the locals. – Yours, etc,
