Sir, - I would like to add my voice to the whisper of those concerned about the imminent closure of the Avonmore Waterford Group Premier Dairies milk bottling plant. It would be interesting to discover how and why the company came to this seemingly regressive decision. Consumer demand? Pishposh and bunkum, I say!
As a family, we have been asked several times over the past few years if we would change to cartons. We have always declined, and for more than the obvious environmental reasons. Milk bottles are solid, chunky, transparent, washable, and make a delightful sound when they make contact with each other. They may not have poetry printed on them, but surely that could be overcome with the application of a label?
We can't manage without milk, but are you and I going to stand idly by and let this bottling out happen? Let the consumers demand glass bottles! - Yours, etc., Sheila Vance,
St David's Terrace, Glasnevin, Dublin 9.
